Pawsitive

Pawsitive is an app that helps you train and educate your dog, providing trick instructions, helpful tips and articles, and a forum where users can consult with each other. The app gives you a personalized experience based on your dog's age, breed (if known), and discipline level to give you the best program for your specific situation.

Competitor Analysis

I explored the three most popular pet training apps on the Google Play Store: Dogo, Pupper, and Go-Dog, and compiled a list of the pros and cons of each one. Using the aforementioned list, I've drawn the following conclusions:

• To provide the most fitting experience for each user, there should be onboarding questions to provide a personalized training experience.
• None of the competitors allows the user to manually search for tricks or programs- which seems useful and intuitive and should be an option.
• Including an explanation text and some visual aid for each step helps the user understand it better.
• Some representation of the progress the dog has made so far would make it comfortable for the user to track it.

User Survey

I conducted a user survey including 20 questions (three examples of which are shown here) for dog owners designed to give me a better picture of whether users are interested in such an app, and what features they'd like to see.

The main conclusions I drew were:
• Most people do think an app of the sort would help them in the training process.
• Most people would use the app multiple times a week at least.
• The most sought-after features are: Visual aid, such as pictures, to demonstrate the tricks and training steps, tips and articles on training your dog, and the option of consulting other users via comments and a forum.

Interviews
(Based on Personas)

I conducted a couple of interviews based on two personas:
• A person who trained a difficult adult dog
• A person who trained a mild-mannered puppy

The questions:
1. How old was your dog when you started the training process?
2. What motivated you to start training your dog?
3. Did you use a professional trainer? How'd it go?
4. What were the main things you used to learn how to train your dog?
5. How was the process? What difficulties did you run into?
6. What do you think could have helped you in the training process? (extra information, etc.)

The conclusions based on the answers:
• People struggle to find advice that fits their dog's specific situation (based on age,
discipline level, etc.), especially from people who have been through a similar experience. Consulting people in similar situations could be helpful.
• Consistency is a massive struggle, wanting to be reminded of what you should do and tracking progress is important.
• The training process varies based on discipline level and age, a personalized experience would be helpful.

Research Conclusions

• Include onboarding questions to provide a personalized experience based on every dog's individual situation.

• Visual aid such as images and illustrations should be included to make things easier for the user to understand and mimic.

• Users struggle with consistency, so the option to have reminders and keep progress logs should be included.

• People would like to converse with others who are in similar situations, so a comment section for each program and a user forum should be included.

• The three main features of the app: Step-by-step training programs, user forum, articles & tips.
