Redesign of the National Fund for Cinema and Television website, UI and UX renewal. The National Fund for Cinema and Television provides funding for filmmakers from various backgrounds, especially minorities. It also offers ‘Greenhouses’- minority programs that provide film education for creators that fit the criteria.
The NFCT website had not been updated in a long time, and there were many navigational issues, unneeded duplications and a very outdated design. The overall goal was to make navigation more intuitive, remove redundancies, and give the site a breath of fresh air with a more modern design.
The problems with the website:
• Many redundancies and repetitions
• Everything is too busy and overwhelming ('no room to breathe')
• The design is extremely outdated and isn't inviting or engaging
• Navigating the site is very confusing
The solutions to be implemented:
• Renew the architecture to make a more natural and comfortable browsing experience for the user
• Avoid overwhelming loads of elements
• Create a new design to make the site feel more modern and attractive
I researched three competitors in order to find the pros and cons of each one, and decide what should be implemented and what should be avoided. Two of the competitors were direct competitors- organizations that help disaffected/young filmmakers to carry out their visions. The last one was an indirect competitor from the same sphere, which would provide a similarly built website to compare to. I have reached the following conclusions:
Things to avoid:
• Overly distracting elements or a large amount of elements.
• Placing important call-to-action elements in unnoticeable locations.
• Text sections that have too many words per line or small spacing in between lines.
Things to implement:
• Strong Hierarchy.
• Easily accessible information.
• ‘Room to breathe’- no large masses of text or elements in too small an area.
